News Flash - I'm in Mexico!

Yep, you read it right, I'm in Mexico. I recently completed a move to Chapultapec, Baja California, Mexico where I'll be staying for about a year while I work on repairing and renovating an orphanage. The building was left several years ago in an unfinished state, so yours truly has volunteered to move in and fix it up. There's a hand full of children staying here now, but when we're done we should be able to keep about 150 plus several families. Everything from framing to trim needs done so I'll be featuring more articles than ever before, in the very near future. Check back frequently!

What you'll find

Home Improvement Advice
This site contains complete instructional guides to every facet of home improvement. I'm Ken Walker and I'll be your guide to everything from installing a new sink, to putting a new roof on your house. You'll find detailed tutorials as well as a support forum for getting your specific question answered quickly.

How to find what you need

I've tried to lay things out as neatly as possible, so that you can find what area you're interested in quickly. For example, all articles having to do with Siding are listed under Siding. Most articles are also listed in such away that an overview is first, and then the things that should be considered next, then the actual how-to of specific tasks. That way you're completely walked through the entire process. As a contractor for many years, I've developed a good understanding of what to think about and how to deal with problems that come up. So if you read through all the articles pertaining to Kitchen Remodeling, you should see most of the forceable problems before you face them.

We're also going to have helpful advice about tools and materials that we recommend for the work you're going to do. The right tools for the right job are as important as the right materials and procedures.

What type of work is covered here?

Growing up my father was a contractor for everything from custom homes to 300+ unit condiminiums. Working with him from my early youth throughout my highschool years and then at various custom home builders, and lastly as a contractor myself, I've picked up a lot of information. While I'm not going to feature steel stud framing in any articles, you can still feel free to visit our home improvement forum and pose any questions you may have. This site is going to contain everything possible you could do to a home to improve it, as well as home repairs that can be done by the do-it-yourselfer.

Some of the bigger projects will be siding your house, replacing your windows and doors, kitchen remodeling, and even room additions. Some smaller projects like hanging wall paper, replacing a toilet, and dividing a room with a wall will also be covered.
