Plumbing Repairs

Is your sink draining slow? Is your cabinet starting to show signs of rot because your pipes are leaking? Don't call the plumber just yet! There are several plumbing tasks the do-it-yourselfer can handle without needing outside help.
Here's some plumbing specific tools you may need to have on hand when tackling plumbing problems:
  • Large Pipe Wrench
  • Channel-Lock Pliers
  • Vise-Grip Pliers
  • Basin Wrench
  • Spud Wrench
  • Pipe Cutter
  • Hacksaw

In addition to these tools, the following supplies are always good to have in your plumbing toolbox:
  • Plumber's Putty
  • Teflon Tape
  • 100% Silicon
  • PVC glue/cleaner

Now, of course there are other tools that plumbers use, like torches and sink handle pullers. Jobs that demand those tools may be a little out of reach for the average do-it-yourselfer (I will discuss using a torch in an article on adding shut-off valves).
There are basically two main problems which relate to plumbing in the home. One is leaks, and the other is clogs or slow drains.
