I am currently remodeling my 2 bathrooms & laundry room, which includes expensive (to me) fixtures (in the baths) & a brand new washer & dryer (my first, & also pricey!) My last washer was ruined over a period of time by sand from the well getting into it, and the fixtures also get calcium build up on them over a period of about a year after they are replaced. Before I put all of these new things in, I want to do things right this time & get a filtering system on the water line coming from the well into the house.

I have a wall that I want to knock down between rooms but it is a load bareing wall. Its an 11 1/2 foot stretch. Could I run a beam across the top with joists at each end and one in the middle? Would it have enough support?
