Somfy and Lutron both offer tubular motors for raising and lowering window coverings as well as controls. Lutron sells the motor and shade together while Somfy sells just the motor which can be combined with any window shade. Lutron's wired solution was tailored to take advantage of the fact that its primary distribution network of lighting control dealers were involved in the early stage wiring and planning phases of home construction and renovation projects. Somfy's wireless solution was designed to exploit the fact that wired solutions (its own and Lutron's) were complex, costly and difficult to sell in many cases, especially in retrofit situations.
