This one will make you laugh Ken

So Im trying to hunt down a clog in our drain for the washing machine and run into a snag. Not the clog but where the drain goes into the slab our house is on. I cant get under this part of the house and the pipe runs under ground to the septic tank. So Ive been asking around the neighbor hood and freinds and was surpised to hear how many poeple have just run the drain out the side of their house or foundation into the lawn. I realy dont want to "rig" it up like that but in a worst case it may have to be.

It's not surprising at all

It's not surprising at all actually, at least not out in the country. Water that is from a toilet is called 'black water'. Water from a washing machine and a sink, is called 'grey water'. It's obviously not fit to drink, but it's not really going to do anything harmful. Lot's of people over the years have actually run washing machine AND sink water into a 'grease trap' to save on their septic usage. The trap is a pit with some rocks dumped in it. It's better than just running onto the ground.

I'll say this though, I don't know of anywhere that code approves of this practice.

I heard "grey water" alot

I heard "grey water" alot when talking to some people. There was one person that did run a seperate "tank". He used a large plastic type storage box. Over the weekend we looked over every possible option and we realy have no choice with the way this house is setup. I know the codes are out the window but we do live on the outskirts of town and the neighbors are great. We all know each other but mind our own business. The only time itll be an issue is if we evr try to sell this dump.

So Ive been lookin around

So Ive been lookin around different sites and yuore right. There are alot of people doin this. It doesnt make it right but it makes me feel like less of a redneck. Most have just run the pipe with the normal trap and out but no vent pipe. Dont you have to have a vent to equalize the pressure?

I understand the Redneck

I understand the Redneck fear LOL Don't worry though, it's not really 'riggin' it.

Well after trying to bust up

Well after trying to bust up the floor around the drain pipe to expose it I just said the hell with it. I ran a new pipe out into the yard and it has worked great. I kept it up about a foot off the ground to keep it out of the snow in the winter. Our yard has a good slope so the water hasnt been puddling anywhere. Surprisingly my father in law didnt give me much greef like I thought he would

I think I've read about this

I think I've read about this in one of those 'Foxfire' series books. Is it safe for the environment? I'm not sure about all that soap and stuff.

The only thing thatll harm

The only thing thatll harm the environment is a soap with phosphate which in most soaps is being eliminated because of that. Not sure about bleach but we dont use it anyways.
