Filter System for Well?

I am currently remodeling my 2 bathrooms & laundry room, which includes expensive (to me) fixtures (in the baths) & a brand new washer & dryer (my first, & also pricey!) My last washer was ruined over a period of time by sand from the well getting into it, and the fixtures also get calcium build up on them over a period of about a year after they are replaced. Before I put all of these new things in, I want to do things right this time & get a filtering system on the water line coming from the well into the house. I had hoped that a water softener would control both the sand and the calcification but I am told that it will not help the sand. I looked at a sand filter & the guy at the supply place didn't sound too enthusiastic about its effectiveness, hinting that it may reduce my water pressure even if I kept it cleaned out(?) I have a cloth type filter on the line going into the new hot water heater, but I don't want that kind on the main line as it would be too expensive to keep buying the filters as often as I would need. The one I looked at was the kind you clean yourself. So my question is this: is there some kind of product/filter system that I don't know about that will solve my woes? I would think the guy at the plumbing supply would have known, but apparently not..........

Dmac,Ever heard of the

Dmac,

Ever heard of the Lakos SandMaster Sediment Filter? This is a filter system designed to remove sand and sediments from well water systems.

This system uses a centrifugal action to 'spin' the water and all the sediments go to the outside. It's my understanding you can purge the settled sand from the bottom of the unit, from time to time, without having to change or clean any filters. You might try your plumbing supply outfit and see if they can get one.

Hope that helps.
