I was planning to ask my contractor to "slide in " my two year old gas range to an opening in my new granite counter top. He cautioned that there would be a "gap" on each side of range where food crumbs will collect. He suggested I considor a "slide in range."

I am on a modest budget and thrilled with my contractor, but I need guidance here. I am retired and my mom who is 90 lives with me. Keeping the counters clean is a concern since we have a boodle of grown children with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
