Replacing a Faulty Switch
For our first job, we'll tackle replacing a standard one light switch that isn't working right. This is only for a single switch circuit and does not cover a 3 or 4-way circuit. If it just stopped altogether, check the bulb first - then the fuse or breaker ;). If it's intermittent or causes flickering lights, and again you've checked the bulb first, just pick up a new switch at your local Home Improvement warehouse. Remember to match the color with the wall plate.Replacing Electrical Receptacles: Tools You'll Need To Remove Fuse Face Plate

Replacing a Breaker
Once in awhile you might have a breaker go bad and need to replace it. Or maybe a 15-amp breaker was installed and you need a little more power. (Warning! Be sure the wiring would support a higher capacity breaker.)Locate the Breaker Box
The first thing to do is locate your panel. This is probably in the garage, or in a closet somewhere. Remove the screws from the outside of the panel and then pull the panel cover off of the box.Electrical Maintenance: Tools For the Do-It-Yourselfer
